This is a one-of-a-kind Toronto Maple Leafs® custom painted 2005 Harley-Davidson® Sportster® XL 883C. What an awesome machine with custom artwork for the true Leafs fan. This incredible bike was donated by Harley-Davidson® of Toronto and then custom painted by Voodo Airbrushing for this charity auction.
If that was not enough... the bike was then signed by the 2006/2007 Toronto Maple Leafs® team!
This 2005 Harley-Davidson® Sportster® XL 883C is new.
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This motorcycle was custom painted by Voodoo Airbrushing. VooDoo Airbrushing is an "eclectic" Art Studio based in Pickering, Ontario and known across the World for their unique designs, custom fabrication and paint application. VooDoo has even traveled to Manama, in the Kingdom of Bahrain, to embellish cigarette boats for the Al Khalifa Royal Family and Sao Paulo, Brasil, to deliver a radical altered custom painted Dodge Ram pick-up truck to Cougar Electronics.
Custom painting since the late seventies, VooDoo Airbrushing has been involved in the evolution of the motorcycle industry for almost 30 years and was involved with the launch of and painted the first two ever 230 tired motorcycles, which forever changed the motorcycle industry. A renowned Artist that has been working on bikes since the late '70's, Gerald McLaughlin and his crew of "Artists Extrodin-Air" at VooDoo Airbrushing, were the perfect choice to bring the entire visual appearance together for the "Melt the Ice" Harley-Davidson®. McLaughlin says, “The focal point of most Motorcycles is the paint job and since ninety-nine percent of a good paint job is having an excellent design concept to start with, this is where we started with the “Melt the Ice” Harley-Davidson® Sportster®, (generously donated by Harley-Davidson® of Toronto)”.
“However my crew and I faced a dilemma on the Maple Leafs Harley, this being: creating a cool design without too much Artwork in order to leave ample room for the entire 2007 Leafs roster to autograph the sheet metal!” VooDoo Airbrushing started by taking the proper time needed to design the creative for the project.
“It wasn't easy because we also wanted to: incorporate the newest and oldest Toronto Maple Leafs® logos, keep a “tough” look to the bike and try to appeal to the widest audience possible”. McLaughlin explains, “From there we e-mailed our colour renderings back and forth a few times with the Leafs organization, before we all decided on the best design concept for the custom paint job”.
The Artwork's design has to work with your eyes and it has to flow with the entire bike and this is why the white flames, (topped with flip-flop blue pearl and outlined with a thick silver key line), were used. Erich Ferguson then Airbrushed this key line to look like beveled chrome trims and Eric's subtle drop shadow behind the logos is total class.
We think you'll agree that Gerald McLaughlin and the “Voo Croo” came through with flying colours matching the classic style of the Harley Sportster with a custom paint job perfectly.
McLaughlin says, “It helps that VooDoo Airbrushing exclusively uses the newest and best in paint technology, “Hot Hues”, by DuPont Performance Coatings”.
Finally once the Hot Hues were applied, the artwork completed and final Airbrushing done, the sheet metal was top coated with multiple coats of ChromaClear G2-47005, (with the new “Hypercure” technology), developed by DuPont. The final step was finessing the ChromaClear to a “show quality, smooth as glass” finish.
Motorcycles, (especially the Leafs themed Sportster®), and Hockey in general are very close to VooDoo's heart as they are custom painters for 3 OEM goalie mask manufacturers for their Stock Paint Programs, also paint goalie masks for many Professional goalies in the NHL and other Leagues and Harley's for many celebrities, which you can view on their website.
